Our heritage


Discover just a few steps from the landing beaches a land rich in nature and in heritage: Le Plain. This rich but scarred bocage, from the coast to the valleys of the inland marshes, is steeped in history. The huge manor farms are surrounded by meadows, which flood in the rainy months, and by large, fields which, before the elm disease epidemic were interwoven with tall lines of tall elm trees.

 Agriculture

Since the 17th century the land has been left as pasture replacing the old style of open and strip ploughing. This rich grass is what makes it renowned for the raising of livestock and trotting horses.

 Natural heritage


At the first fall of autumn rain the river levels rise and the bottom of the valleys is gradually flooded driving away the cows and horses. This phenomenon, which is linked to the heavy rainfall, comes to a head in the middle of winter.
