Utah-Beach

At 4.30 the same day, the landing began at “La Madeleine” in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont. 22000 men and 1800 vehicles walked upon our ground, and established the link between Utah and Sainte-Mère.

The beach of “La Madeleine”, universally known as Utah Beach, is situated in the district of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, 5 kilometres from the village.

At 6.30 in the morning, the 8th regiment of the 4th division, belonging to General Barton, landed here with amphibian tanks. In fact, the area of Utah Beach encompassed a part of the East coast of La Manche until the Vire estuary.

Around the Landing museum in Utah Beach, many monuments have been erected to the glory of several units which had taken part of the landing, particularly the 90th and 4th divisions.
